All about breathwork!
Breathwork is one of the most transformative healing modalities.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is an active meditation. We use the breath to connect more deeply with our physical, mental and spiritual bodies. During a breathwork journey we use the breath to move stuck energy so we can heal and transform.
Breathwork is a form of bottom-up healing – healing from the body rather than the mind. It is a holistic practice using conscious and connected breath to eliminate emotional and physical blocks, stimulate energy and improve your self-connection while also bringing a sense of presence, relaxation and mental clarity.
Why Breathe?
Use your breath to process, integrate, connect, heal and release – find what it is you need. Breathwork allows us to work with the nervous system. Through consciously altering our breath we can activate and regulate the nervous system which allows us to build tolerance for stress in our life.
Breathwork also provides us with a safe space to practice what we need in life - whether that is taking up space, using our voice, or listening to and responding to the needs and cues of your body. Breathwork allows us to integrate and explore without judgement.
You are always in control. Let your body lead the way, there’s no knowing exactly what will arise in a breathwork session, but you can be guaranteed that it will be whatever serves you best in this moment.

What is breathwork?
Breathwork is one of the most powerful healing modalities. When we activate the breath we can clear stuck and stored energy, create change in our life, regulate the nervous system, release somatically, and resource ourselves toward psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing and resilience.
Breathwork allows us to create space, and in that space we have a chance to expand our awareness, joy, and peace, come home to our body, align with our truth, and empower ourselves and so much more. It heightens our capacity to feel, to transform, & to expand. It is where we meet and connect to ourselves more deeply.

A note on sessions:
Healing and transformation in the comfort of your own space! Our time together will consist of a guided and experiential journey. A curated playlist will accompany your process, along with attuned and intuitive cues. The invitation is to bring your awareness deeper into the body, using the breath. I will hold space for your reflections if you feel called to share and journal prompts may be offered to support you towards the end of the experience.
Upon registering (in my calendar - acuity scheduler) you will recieve a personal zoom link via email. If you do not receive this link please email me at spacebreathwork@gmail.com at your earliest convenience. Last minute requests may not be received in time. You will need to download the zoom app prior to our session.
Our session will start promptly on time. You will be let in up to 5 minutes late in agreement that your mute will be on as not to disrupt the other breathers. Refunds are not available however with advanced notice I am hoppy to reschedule you for a future session if you will not be able to attend.
Preparing for a virtual session:
Please keep this in mind as you prepare for a session: only what you are ready to experience will arrive during a session. No matter what comes up, you will be held with energetic and grounding support. In group spaces, we will be sharing intention and experience - this creates a unique blend of energy and it is not a mistake that you are in this group, at this time. Remember if there is an activation or something that confronts you or is bringing resistance, stay curious - there may be a lesson or a reason.
You get to choose: your pace, your depth, your level of activation. Everything I say is an invitation but remember, your body is the first cue, I am the second. Learning to listen to the body is an important step that we often override in our day to day life.
For meditative sessions you must be fully supported for the duration of the session, laying down or reclined is preferred. See below for common physical reactions.
Setting yourself up for success should include; not eating one to two hours prior, using the restroom just before beginning, wearing comfortable clothing, making sure you will be uninterrupted for the duration of the session. Think comfort, bringing in anything that would raise your levels of safety and coziness throughout. While not necessary, this could include; lip balm, blankets, eye mask, essential oils, crystals, a journal, airpods, a flat pillow for the shoulders and head or under the knees, etc.
***In person: if you are joining in-person, please also bring a mat, towel, or blanket to lay on, water, a journal and pen/pencil, and anything from above that will bring you comfort and support.
During the session, you may have various responses whether emotional, physical, mental or spiritual in nature.
You may experience any and all emotions, it is best to practice witnessing and observing rather than becoming the emotions or needing to make meaning of them. You may also have little emotional response and simply feel more peace and relaxation. Practice observing anything and all that comes up.
Physical responses to breathwork may include but are not limited to; temperature shifts, tingling, sensual and sexual arousal, light-headedness, and tetany. Tetany is a contraction in the muscles, most commonly the hands, mouth, and feet, that occurs as the PH level between O2 and CO2 shifts in the body, it is perfectly safe and normal, particularly if you’re new to breathwork. It naturally releases on its own. You can slow or release the breath (and come back to your natural breathing) at any time to bring yourself more comfort. The effects are not permanent.
Also, no response and resistance are welcome. They are often edges where the body is using a strategy to keep us safe. This is a process of building safety & self-trust with ourselves.
Titration is key. When we have stored trauma, stress, and overwhelm in the body we must temper the pace and allow for our systems to regulate as to not flood or re-traumatize the body. Recognize and then resist the urge to overstimulate (or over breathe to force yourself to get a bigger result or transformation). Often we try to go too much, too fast, or too hard when going slow and steady and at the pace dictated by our own body (not the mind) is what we need.
Post-session recommendations:
Go slowly and gently
Rest! Your body just accomplished something, allow yourself a break to return to homeostasis and relaxation. Sleep if that is the desire.
Having/creating space and time after breathwork to be with, journal, meditate on any material that came up or through for you. Grounding practices, movement, humming, and creating help in the integration.
Nourishing and hydrating yourself with good foods and plenty of water.
You may notice emotional or physical responses in the coming hours or days, give yourself time to integrate and practice compassion and patience with yourself.
Practice rituals that support you.
Reach out if you need support.
Other considerations:
We all breathe everyday, AND it is important to remember that activating the breath is not a fit for everyone. Breathwork can be a catalyst for awareness, higher states of consciousness, deep connection, and remembering, and it asks of us to maintain a bare witness approach filled with love and compassion, or at least the willingness to try.
Breathwork can be emotionally and physically demanding. Contraindicators for breathwork are listed here, but not limited to:
those who are pregnant, have severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, bipolar disorders or schizophrenia, recent major surgeries and/or communicable diseases, and others listed in the release below.
If any of these apply to you, I encourage you to consult with your medical professional, then contact me to discuss potential modifications, so we can assess whether this offering will be beneficial to and for you.
Breathwork can elicit intense somatic release. This is a trauma-informed breathwork session and those who have experienced significant trauma may want to opt for one-on-one sessions instead.
